It’s no surprise that we each experience stress in our daily lives. Stress is inevitable but there are ways to cope with it and reduce it. What better way than to reduce stress with these eight superfoods.

  • AVOCADO

Avoca-don’t miss out on this amazing nutrient-rich fruit. Avocados are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help release happy toxins in your body, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve concentration level. For a yummy yet powerful drink, blend  all the ingredients well. Your go-to avocado milkshake is ready to give you a boost of vitamin B that is essential to fight the feelings of hypertension and more, leaving you feeling charged up in no time.

  • MIXED NUTS

The sound of crunch is satisfying in itself! Munching on nuts can be a great stress-relieving activity for you while providing you with soothing nutrients. Magnesium deficiency is found among a large number of people which leads to the inability of stress management resulting in insomnia, weight loss, and fatigue. Lucky for you, mixed nuts contain this vital nutrient to act as your body’s natural coping mechanism. Almonds, pistachios, and walnuts are great for lowering blood pressure while the rhythmic movement of cracking the pistachio open helps you feel relaxed. Here is to snacking when stressed for a tastier and peaceful life.

  • MILK

A centuries-old home remedy for a better goodnights sleep, warm milk devises a relaxing effect on the body. Lately, it has been discovered that milk contains a protein called lactium that provides a calming effect to your body, lowering blood pressure and reducing the levels of a stress-causing hormone called Cortisol. Other than lactium, calcium is the main stress reducer here, it helps nourish the nervous system, prevents anxiety, and panic attacks.

If you’re not a milk person, try other dairy products like cheese and yogurt, and hey the major component of ice cream is milk!

For our lactose intolerant crowd, get your calcium goodness from alternatives such as soy and oat milk.

  • FATTY FISH

Omega 3 is a heart-healthy component found in fatty fish that helps you stay calm and collected. It helps ease depression as the nutrients easily interact with mood-related brain molecules. Some fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, and halibut are a great pick for stress eating as this lean protein keeps you fit and happy, all at the same time.

  • TAHINI

The heart and soul of middle eastern food, Tahini, is made from toasted ground hulled sesame. The rich spread is an excellent source of amino acid L-tryptophan which is a predecessor of the mood-regulating neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, therefore, it reduces nervousness. Sesame seed is the star ingredient of tahini that has a powerful effect on heart health and reduces the risk of high blood pressure.

  • BLUEBERRIES

VitamiC is the way to a stress-free body and what better fruit to choose other than these small but mighty blueberries that are bursting with this nutrient. Eating flavonoid-rich food such as blueberries act as a safeguard against depression and help boost your mood. Swapping out sugary food with blueberries is optimal as sugary foods make you feel more jittery increasing stress levels rather than helping the mood.

  • DARK CHOCOLATE

Just unwrapping a piece of dark chocolate can put a smile on your face. This sweet treat is pumped with fibers and antioxidants that prevent cell damage and lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The antioxidants present in cocoa help relax blood vessels, helping lower blood pressure and boost blood circulation. So now that we know dark chocolates solve all problems, let’s break a square to celebrate!

  • CHAMOMILE TEA

Chamomile tea soothes the muscles and relaxes the blood flow in the body. It is a great cure for insomnia and since it is a natural source of stress-relief, it is free from side effects. The tea helps naturally increase serotonin and melatonin levels in your body, which leaves you feeling elevated without having to pop those pills that make you feel drowsy.
